Oscars ask Kevin Hart to apologize for homophobic tweets, comedian refuses

Kevin Hart knows some people are upset over Tuesday's announcement that he will host the 2019 Oscars - and he thinks they need to get over it. Backlash over Hart's gig ensued when an old joke about not wanting a gay son resurfaced online.

Kevin Hart also had a pattern of calling people "fag" on Twitter, and at one point called someone "a gay bill board [sic] for AIDS" - all of which seems pretty intense for someone recently chosen to host the Academy Awards, which have always been a big to-do for the LGBTQ community.

The blockbuster comic and forthcoming Oscar host has come under fire for meticulously deleting old homophobic tweets after being called out by users on Twitter earlier this week.

Hart said today on Twitter, "I was asked the most awesome question from my kids today on the phone ... they said "Dad why don't you get mad when people talk about you on the internet" ... my answer was 'I never see that stuff because I'm too busy being happy & loving you 2'".

"I work hard on a daily basis to spread positivity to all", he declared, once again disregarding the feelings and experiences of many in the LGBTQ community.

"Kevin Hart, apologize for your tweets of old, or we're going to have to move on", Hart relayed about the call in the Instagram post. "I'm nearly 40 years old and I'm in love with the man that I am becoming". If you don't believe that people change, grow, evolve as they get older.

"The reason why I passed is because I've addressed this several times", he said.

RBI keeps repo rate unchanged at 6.5%, lowers inflation forecast sharply
Policymakers have to nurse the shadow banking sector after a series of debt defaults by a major infrastructure lender. RBI said inflation in the second half of the current fiscal is projected at 2.7-3.2 per cent.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.

"I'm sorry that I hurt people", Hart continued.

In his memoir I Can't Make This Up, he said his marriage to Torrei Hart got violent.

It's possible the Academy will consider Hart's statements sufficiently in the past and move on, but it's tough to say what will happen next. I've said who I am now versus who I was then. He said, "Keep in mind, I'm not homophobic".

Hart responded to the criticism with a black and white video on Instagram, alongside a long message.

In an earlier post Thursday, Hart wrote on Instagram that critics should "stop being negative" about his earlier anti-gay remarks. And in 2010, he joked that he feared his son would be "growing up and being gay". Unlike the near-simultaneous news that Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh would be MCs for the Golden Globes though, a lot of people are incredibly not down with Hart's appointment, dredging up his many previous instances of homophobia. He then launched into stories about his son, then 3, having his first gay moment with a friend and how he needed to "nip it in the bud" by screaming at him, "Stop, that's gay!"
