Trump Organization responds to claims it hired illegal immigrants

Morales, who earns US$13 an hour, said employees had become increasingly upset by Trump's negative rhetoric about Hispanic immigrants and said a supervisor berated them as "stupid illegal immigrants".

Victorina Morales, a Guatemalan immigrant, says in a bombshell interview that she cleaned Trump's toilet and dusted his golf trophies at the Bedminster club frequently visited by the president.

"There are many people without papers", said Diaz, who said she witnessed several people being hired whom she knew to be living in the country without legal permission.

Morales said she made a decision to speak out because she felt exhausted of the president's unceasing vilification of immigrants.

'We are exhausted of the abuse, the insults, the way he talks about us when he knows that we are here helping him make money, ' Morales said. "We sweat it out and attend to his every need and have to put up with his humiliation".

She eventually quit her job in 2013 and trained her replacement on the specifications required to keep things up to the Trump family standards.

During the campaign, the Washington Post reported that Trump relied in part on illegal immigrant workers as part of the $200 renovation of a luxury hotel in Washington, D.C. Trump denied it, saying: "I didn't hire one illegal immigrant to build Trump International Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue, ' getting the property's name in his response".

Conservative immigration views and undocumented employees have not mixed well for politicians in the past: A similar revelation proved damaging to Mitt Romney during his 2012 presidential campaign.

Victorina Morales and Sandra Diaz approached the New York Times with their stories through an immigration lawyer.

Morales is seeking asylum, and is aware she could lose her job for taking her complaints to the press.

The Trump Organization, which owns the golf course, did not comment to the New York Times about the women profiled in the report.

A spokeswoman for the golf club said in a statement that any employee found to have submitted false documentation would be immediately fired.

The White House did not immediately respond to Newsweek's request for comment. In addition to calling for a wall on the Mexican border, he has urged companies to screen workers more carefully.

"I ask myself, is it possible that this señor thinks we have papers?"

But she and Morales described the president as demanding but kind, at times handing out tips as big as US$50 or US$100. Today, she spent the day with her lawyer, and as news of her disclosures spread, she did not answer a phone call from her supervisor at the golf course. "Why wouldn't he figure it out?"
