The Outer Worlds is Obsidian's Ambitious-Looking Sci-Fi RPG

Something to look forward to: If you are among the many gamers who were disappointed with the release of Bethesda's Fallout 76, Obsidian's latest game reveal might come as a breath of fresh air.

As expected from the trailer, The Outer Worlds is a first-person, single-player RPG.

The first trailer for Obsidian's next project, The Outer Worlds, was unveiled during the 2018 Game Awards ceremony on November 6.

The game is set on a colonised planet far out in the galaxy.

The Outer Worlds will be releasing in 2019, so we'll be seeing much more of this game over the course of next year. However, based on the 15-minute gameplay demo we've seen so far, the environments look plenty open-ended already - or at least, they do a good job giving you the illusion of being open-ended.

In it, you play as a colonist taking on megacorps... or not.

However, work would've begun on The Outer Worlds years before the buyout so it seems the deal with Take-Two has stuck and the game will remain multiformat.

Role-playing fans will recognise that the developers at work here have some considerable experience in the genre, as Obsidian made Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds is being led by Fallout co-creator Tim Cain and original artist Leonard Boyarsky.

Geoff Keighley and Obsidian teased the game's announcement last week with the tagline, "Worlds Will Change".
