Apple To Assemble iPhones In India Via Local Foxconn Unit Starting 2019

Apple's high-end iPhones will be assembled at Foxconn's facility in Sriperumbudur town of Tamil Nadu.

Its sales in India have also been focused on lower-end phones - more than half of its sales volume is driven by models older than the iPhone 8, launched a year ago, according to technology research firm Counterpoint. Moreover, Foxconn - a Taiwanese company is already manufacturing smartphones for Xiaomi. CIRP reported in June that Android users were more likely to switch to Apple's cheapest model, which at the time of the report was the iPhone SE, because they were hesitant to splurge on the iPhone X. And, this investment is expected to generate jobs for at least 25,000 people.

Several outlets have been reporting this year that Apple's pricing for its new iPhones was too high.

CenturyLink: Internet service will be fully restored in about 4 hours
Some reports told of people unable to get gas as card readers shut down at some gas stations, and others of ATM's glitching. It may be the most wonderful time of the year, but not for CenturyLink.

Apple's most affordable handset this year did not only win the favor of iPhone 8 and iPhone X owners, but it also managed to attract hordes of Android switchers during its first month of availability, a research report has revealed.

It is not known if any of the iPhone assembly is being moved from existing Hon Hai factories in China and elsewhere. Foxconn said it did not comment on matters related to current or potential customers, or any of their products. In all probability Apple would look at exporting units made locally as cost-sensitive India is not yet a major market for it. The rise of India as an industrial base will allow Apple to mitigate the effects of the Sino-US trade war. Apple had marketed the iPhone X in 2017, which it has enriched with the global launch in the fall of 2018 new versions XS and XR.

Foxconn has previously admitted the China-U.S. trade spat was its biggest challenge and that its senior executives were making plans to counter the impact.
