New Yorkers are urged to get flu shot as influenza cases spike

"With an increase in flu cases in every corner of this state, I want to remind New Yorkers who have not been vaccinated against the flu that it is not too late to take this critical action", Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said in a news release. Flu season generally runs from October until April.

The number of people getting sick from the flu in MI is lower than this same time past year, according to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"It's better than nothing, and even if you do go ahead and get the flu it can make that flu less deadly", LaPook said.

The Cuomo administration says the number of confirmed cases of influenza is rising across NY state, with more than 5,400 people coming down with the illness so far this season. There have been 1,305 hospitalizations so far this season and one pediatric death. "We extend our deepest sympathies to the child's family and hope we can help people understand that flu is a serious illness".
