Water fountain at airport closed after six passengers fall ill on flight

Officials say they were not traveling together.

Passengers were asked to wait on the plane while health officials wearing masks boarded the flight and conducted tests. "No one was transported from the airport to local hospitals", TPA vice president of communications Janet Scherberger told The Points Guy in an email.

Cleveland Airport has turned off several water fountains for testing.

City and airport officials "are working collaboratively to investigate all potential causes, including passenger activities before arriving at the airport".

Passengers on Frontier Airlines flight 1397 were kept on the plane for an hour and a half after landing at Tampa International Airport while 6 people were removed from the aircraft by medical personnel. The six passengers were not traveling as a group, but exhibited the same symptoms.

Cleveland Airport reported they shut down all water fountains in the terminal area as a precaution while looking into the possibility of the water fountains being connected to the illnesses. All other passengers were released after a brief holding period.

In a statement, Frontier Airlines said the ill passengers were evaluated by medical staff before being released.
