Driver held in shooting death of Jazmine Barnes in Houston

A man has admitted to driving the vehicle from which Jazmine Barnes, 7, was fatally shot in Texas last week, according to a prosecutor at Harris County Probate Court.

Authorities in Harris County are interviewing "persons of interest" in the slaying of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes, the Harris County Sheriff's Office confirmed Saturday.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said authorities have identified the second suspect, who is also black, but would not say whether the person was in custody.

Jazmine was killed after a gunman fired into the vehicle that she was riding in with her mother and siblings at around 6:50 a.m. Sunday, officials said.

Meanwhile, investigators are still looking for the driver of a red pickup truck reported at the scene, Gonzalez said.

Shaun King had offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to the gunman's arrest.

The sheriff's office also tweeted several times it was originally searching for a white male in his 40s, but both Black and Woodruffe are black. Black is now being held at the Harris County Jail without bond and is expected to make his first court appearance tomorrow morning.

Donald Trump to meet with Democrats over government shutdown
He said Mexico would pay for the wall through a new trade deal, though there are no such terms in the still-unratified deal. White House and congressional negotiators were scheduled to meet Sunday after scant progress was made in a sesson Saturday.

It is hard to understand how at least 4 independent witnesses mistook 2 black male suspects for 1 older white suspect.

The suspect is African American, which suggests the attack was not a hate crime as asserted by the girl's family and some in the community. "To learn that it wasn't isn't disappointing, but it is surprising". The girl was black and the alleged shooter is described as a white man in a red truck, but the sheriff's office did not immediately identify Black's race. He was believed to be wearing a black hoodie at the time of the shooting.

Hundreds in the Houston community gathered Saturday to honor the 7-year-old victim of a driveby shooting whose killer is still on the run. Before that tip, police had issued a sketch of a white man based on a description of the shooter provided by Jazmine's family, and had circulated surveillance video of a red pickup truck he was apparently driving. They also assumed the white man driving it fired the shots. "This just went down very quickly when the gunfire erupted", Gonzalez said.

The sheriff's office said in a release that investigators are pursuing evidence that could lead to additional people being charged in the case. He was arrested for marijuana possession and questioned by homicide investigators based on the tips, the affidavit said.

Gonzalez said he could not comment on speculation involving possible motives in the killing, although he did reiterate that the intended targets were likely someone else.

The shooting occurred as Jazmine and her three sisters were being driven by their mother, LaPorsha Washington, to a local convenience store for an early morning grocery run. They chanted "Justice for Jazmine" and "No peace, no justice".
