Samsung unveils 219-inch MicroLED display

Samsung unveils 219-inch MicroLED display

"At last year's CES, Samsung introduced Micro LED by unveiling The Wall, the critically acclaimed, award-winning 146" Micro LED display.

LAS VEGAS-Samsung has arrived at CES with some very big TVs powered by very small lights. Samsung appears to be well on its way in overcoming this hurdle by launching a new TV with smaller LEDs compared to a year ago. These MicroLEDs feature millions of inorganic red, green, and blue microscopic LED chips which are capable of producing their own light - resulting in a superior contrast ratio and near ideal color.

Finally, because Micro LED displays are bezel-free, there are no borders between modules - even when you add more.

Samsung says it has improved the MicroLED tech since previous year by refining the manufacturing process of MicroLED panels to shrink the gap between the microscopic LEDs that make up these displays.

The Samsung 98-inch Q900 QLED will once again take advantage of Quantum Dot screen tech, as well as making use of Direct Array Mobile Dimming, ensuring the contrast of a the screen is as rich as it can be for each scene.

The Korean firm says the revolutionary new Micro LED technology features leading-edge self-emissive technology and modular capabilities which will help Micro LED displays deliver unparalleled picture quality, versatility and design.

Yoon Lee, Senior Vice President Samsung Electronics America, said it will deliver "incredible color and contrast that others can't compete with".

The 219-inch display may be a pie-in-the-sky demo (for now!) but a 75-inch version - however expensive - could find its way into some homes in the relatively near future.

'Samsung Micro LED has no boundaries, only endless possibilities'. It also optimises the content resolution without compromising the pixel density. First and foremost is its modular nature which allows users to create virtually any screen size to meet spatial, aesthetic or functional needs. According to Samsung, this includes support for standard formats like 16:9 HD or 21:9 widescreen, and more unconventional aspect ratios like 32:9, or 1:1.
