Binotto replaces Arrivabene as Ferrari team principal

Binotto replaces Arrivabene as Ferrari team principal

Formula One outfit Ferrari have reshuffled their management setup with team principal Maurizio Arrivabene replaced "with immediate effect" by technical director Mattia Binotto, the Italian constructor confirmed on Monday (Tuesday morning, Singapore time).

The upheaval, little more than two months before the start of the season in Australia on March 17, had been flagged up before the official announcement by the Gazzeta dello Sport newspaper.

Arrivabene's tenure had looked uncertain for some time, with reports as far back as October, 2017 suggesting Binotto could replace the former Philip Morris marketing executive.

"This year Ferrari had what it takes to win the championship and did not do it", Briatore told Adnkronos. The capitulation fans witnessed on the track seemed to mirror the mood at the team after the death of president Sergio Marchionne in July.

"After four years of untiring commitment and dedication, Maurizio Arrivabene is leaving the team", it read. In contrast, Binotto has played a huge role in Ferrari's engine gains in recent years as well as their recent improvements on the aero side.

Heathrow Airport says suspending departures after drone sighting
Transport Minster Chris Grayling said the military are "preparing to deploy equipment used at Gatwick should it prove necessary". The exclusion zone around airports will be extended to approximately a three-mile radius, with extensions from runway ends.

The most interesting question will be how the change in management styles affects the team.

Although having delivered the quickest vehicle for stages of the season, the team failed to capitalise on its opportunities as Mercedes again came out on top. "Mattia Binotto will take over as Scuderia Ferrari's Team Principal". In fact, it is easy to see parallels between Binotto and Ferrari legend Ross Brawn, who came from a similar background and displayed similar leadership qualities - Brawn helped turn Ferrari into the dominant force of the early 2000s. While both the SF70H and SF71H have had their shortcomings, Ferrari's title bids over the last two seasons have also been hampered by pit wall and driver failures.

Binotto is a Ferrari lifer, has proved his worth for more than two decades and now has the opportunity to write himself into the Scuderia's legend, with Ferrari closer than ever to being champions again. There has been talk of his exit for more than a year.

The Ferrari veteran, who has risen through the ranks to technical director and overseen a big step up in engine performance, has also reportedly been a target for rival constructors.

"Binotto did an excellent job as Technical Director, past year Ferrari had a very good auto, very fast and with a different manegement of the drivers could bring the world championship home".
