Healthcare Facility Chief Quits After Woman in Coma Gives Birth

Micheaels also gave an update on the newborn writing, "The family would like me to convey that the baby boy has been born into a loving family and will be well cared for".

A spokesperson for Hacienda HealthCare did not immediately return Fox News' request for comment Tuesday.

Staff at the facility in Phoenix, Arizona were apparently unaware that the patient - who has been in a vegetative state for more than a decade - was pregnant before she had a baby boy.

Officials with Hacienda Healthcare announced their CEO, Bill Timmons, has resigned from the company.

The tribe confirmed in the press release the woman is 29 years old, meaning she has been in a vegetative since her late teens.

San Carlos Apache Police Department Chief Alejandro Benally said in the release that the case was in the jurisdiction of the Phoenix Police Department and his agency would assist in any way possible.

"A lot of people are mad, my family included", says Gary Londer, a parent of a Hacienda HealthCare patient.

In response, the Arizona Department of Economic Security and Phoenix police launched an investigation into the facility. Her identity has not been reported and it is not known if she has a family or a guardian.

The boss of a private clinic in the U.S. has resigned after a woman in a vegetative state reportedly gave birth. According to the local station's unidentified source, the facility staff had no idea the patient was pregnant until she began moaning as she went into labor.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson said only that the "the matter is under investigation", but declined to elaborate. "I haven't been able to sleep good at night because of what occurred here", another mother, Angela Gomez said.

In addition to working with police, the state is "re-evaluating the state's contract and regulatory authority as it relates to this facility and have been working closely with state agencies to ensure all necessary safety measures are in place", Patrick Ptak, a governor's office spokesman, said in a statement.

Protocol at the clinic has been changed, the source said, and men now have to be accompanied by a woman on entering the room of a female patient. Arizona Department of Health Services found that in 2013 a male employee at the facility was making inappropriate sexual comments about patients bodies and was subsequently fired, and in 2017 the facility was reported for not offering privacy for patients while showering.

The Hacienda facility serves infants, children and young adults who are "medically fragile" or have developmental disabilities, according to the website.

One staff member was sacked for making repeated inappropriate sexual comments to patients.
