Trump threatens to stop federal aid for California wildfires

Trump has repeatedly blamed California officials for failing to manage the state's forests, but numerous areas affected by fire are not forests at all.

'Unless they get their act together, which is unlikely, I have ordered FEMA to send no more money. "It is a disgraceful situation in lives & money!" the president said, referring to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

In a tweet Friday morning, President Donald Trump threatened to cut of FEMA funding in California due to improper forest management. "Even if we eliminated all habitat for riparian species and fish, and allowed saltwater intrusion into the delta and set up a sprinkler system over the state, that wouldn't compensate for greater moisture loss from climate change". "When fires strike or the earth shakes, [California] needs to be prepared", Newsom tweeted Tuesday, his first full day in office.

Trump started this fire and he'll have to figure out some way to put it out that doesn't just look like a nasty jab at the nation's largest state. The White House and FEMA did not immediately respond to requests for comment Wednesday.
