The Toronto woman's death isn't the first of its kind in Canada.

A Toronto woman died Tuesday morning after she became trapped in a Salvation Army donation bin, marking her the eighth Canadian death from the freakish cause since 2015.

A 34-year-old man died after becoming trapped in a bin in West Vancouver in December, while a 32-year-old in Ontario died in similar circumstances in November. If the organizations don't remove the bins then the city may take further steps, such as a bylaw, he said. Sidhu said such deaths are especially horrific.

"To advised them of the city's concern about the safety of the bins and asked them to undertake a review and take appropriate measures, including removing the bins from private property, as required", he explains.

At least one charity said it's actively working to retrofit its donation bins to address the problem.

Diabetes Canada announced the move last week and said Tuesday that about 4,000 bins are being retrofitted or modified across the country, with the changes expected to be completed by January 18.

"Although death or injury related to the misuse of clothing donation bins is not common, we feel that if there is an opportunity to prevent this type of tragic incident, we must make every effort to find a solution", the company said in a statement.

In total, five deaths have been reported in British Columbia over the last four years. We all really got along.
