Jets To Hire Adam Gase As Head Coach

ESPN's Jeff Darlington was the first to report the hire.

However, the Jets weren't discouraged by the Dolphins' stagnant offenses under Gase, and now he'll get another chance to prove that earlier hype was warranted.

Gase was 23-26 in three seasons with Miami, including a playoff game in 2016, before being fired Monday. He is set to become the first Jets head coach with previous National Football League head-coaching experience since Bill Parcells was hired by the franchise in 1997.

Before joining the Dolphins, Gase served as offensive coordinator on John Fox's staffs with the Broncos (2013-14) and Bears (2015).

During this hiring season, the Dolphins have been the quietest among the eight teams that are or were looking for new head coaches.

Miami faces the Jets twice a year, as both are in the AFC East. The two men spearheading the Jets coaching search left all options open when asked to identify the type of candidate they wanted to run their franchise. The team has a young, promising quarterback in Sam Darnold, almost $100 million available to spend in free agency and the third overall pick in April's draft.

The Jets met with seven other coaches about their vacancy, including Mike McCarthy, Kris Richard, Jim Caldwell, Eric Bieniemy, Todd Monken, Matt Rhule and Kliff Kingsbury, who took the Arizona Cardinals job.
