NHS Long Term Plan to save up to 500000 lives

NHS Long Term Plan to save up to 500000 lives

They claim the much-delayed announcement completely ignores the NHS greatest assets - its workforce - and fails to address the years of real terms pay cuts which have left some nursing wards with vacancy rates of higher than 40%. The plan is to prevent around 23,000 premature deaths and 50,000 hospital admissions in the next decade.

"The launch of the NHS long-term plan marks an historic step to secure its future and offers a vision for the service for the next 10 years, with a focus on ensuring that every pound is spent in a way that will most benefit patients".

The NHS said it is "for government to lead" on wider action to cut air pollution, but promised yesterday to "work to reduce air pollution from all sources" under its control. The agency is also implementing new digital techniques that will help efficient spending of the fund. Challenges Ahead An analysis by The King's Fund, an independent charity, noted that while funding has increased, the NHS needs to deal with hard decisions on how healthcare is delivered.

She said: 'As well as the implementation of these services in the NHS, the Government needs to introduce broader measures, such a minimum unit pricing for beer, wines and spirits, to achieve a largescale improvement in the population's health.

NHS England chief Simon Stevens said the plan also "tackles head on" the pressures faced by health staff.

The Plan, for the first time time, envisages faster growth in primary, community and mental health care investment than that of overall NHS budget with a £4.5 billion funding boost.

The report - which is long on buzzwords and short on substance - also referenced the use of artificial intelligence to aid decision-support, the use of predictive tools to support the development of local health services, and linking genomic "and other data" to support the development of new treatments.

About two million more people who suffer anxiety, depression or other problems will receive help over the next decade.

The plan prioritises improved access for mental health services, expansion of personal health budgets, improvements to maternity care and support for the ageing population in England, with other parts of the United Kingdom being funded separately.

Mr Stevens said the plan "keeps all that's good about our health service and its place in our national life".

Baroness Harding will provide interim recommendations to me by the end of March on how the challenges of supply, reform, culture and leadership can be met, and final recommendations later in the year as part of the broader Implementation Plan that will be developed at all levels to make the Long Term Plan a reality.

It tackles head-on the pressures our staff face.

We will improve how the NHS cares for children and young people with learning disabilities and autism by reducing inappropriate hospitalisation, reducing over medicalisation, and providing quality care in the community.

Kay Boycott, chief executive of Asthma UK, said smart inhalers were "game-changing devices" that "track how often and well people are taking their asthma medication so that those most at risk of asthma attacks can be identified and helped before they need hospital treatment".

"'It is welcome that the Government is beginning to recognise the importance of prevention and must now ensure that these plans are deliverable, sustainable, and serve the long-term needs of the public", he said.

The plan will also involve using technology to allow for more precise targeting of public health messages, he told Sky News' Sophy Ridge On Sunday.

Our Long Term Plan will ensure the NHS continues to be there, from cradle to grave, free at the point of use, based on clinical need and not ability to pay.
