Andrew Wiggins apologizes for 'gay' remark after 40-point game

Oklahoma City Thunder big man Nerlens Noel left the court on a stretcher after almost being dunked on by Minnesota Timberwolves forward Andrew Wiggins.

Noel took an elbow in the face as Wiggins went up, and Noel's head hit the ground hard.

The next morning, Wednesday, Jan. 9, reports by The Athletic said that Noel has been diagnosed with a concussion and avoided fracturing his skull.

Schroder took issue with the Timberwolves when a number of players appeared to be laughing while Thunder center Nerlens Noel lay motionless on the floor from a scary fall. "We felt like he was in the best hands at the time". The play was reviewed, and no additional fouls were called.

Said Thunder star Russell Westbrook: "I'd just rather not talk about it".

"I didn't know if it was necessarily going to work, going against their schemes", Saunders told The Athletic about an hour after a thrilling, tense 119-117 victory over the Thunder.

Wiggins said he didn't intend to hurt Noel on the dunk attempt. "He tried to contest it".

Wiggins sent his well wishes to Noel following the game.

Despite the remarks, Wiggins finished with a game-high 40 points.

"I've seen Andrew do a lot of things throughout my life", Wolves center Karl-Anthony Towns said. "Hopefully we'll hear some good news back later on".

Noel has been a critical reserve for the Thunder this season, averaging 5.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 14 minutes per contest.

The comments came after the Timberwolves 119-117 win Tuesday evening, when Wiggins told reporters that Schroder "was acting insane for no reason". Two technicals were called on Teague and he was ejected.
