Apple planning to launch three new iPhones in 2019

While Apple reportedly plans new cameras as the standout features of its 2019 smartphones, the company may also remove features to cut costs.

Apple Inc.is planning to release three new iPhone models this year, including a device to succeed the newly-created XR model, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unidentified people familiar with the matter.

WSJ does state that Apple is too deep into the product planning for this year's phones, so the company isn't changing major features like the display on the iPhone XR yet.

"We think the three new iPhones in 2H19F will likely have the same form factors (body size and displays) as the 2H18 iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max, with some added AR [augmented reality]-related features", Lee wrote in a research note.

As with any rumor, particularly ones this far out, we'd take all of this with a pinch of salt, but it would make sense for Apple to up the number of lenses on its phones, since many rival handsets now have more than two. The company started off with the news of its revenue shortfall, likely caused by the disappointing sales of the iPhone XR. Many Android handsets, including Google's Pixel 3 XL, combine hardware and software to produce some of the best photos we've seen from any smartphone.

Though Apple won't debut its new 2019 iPhones for another nine months, the company is already well into the development cycle for them.

A Bloomberg report co-authored by noted Apple oracle Mark Gurman claims that Apple won't introduce a 5G-capable iPhone next year, and will instead "hold off until at least 2020".

Apple did not respond to requests for comment.

Apple discourages retailers from discounting iPhones and such reductions are rare so soon after their release, with the lower prices coming just four months after the models were unveiled. "Or, Apple might be under pressure to clean out its stock of iPhones", he believes. Apple's branding has been a mess as of late, so it's all very fuzzy.
