Trump's former lawyer to testify before House oversight panel

Trump's former lawyer to testify before House oversight panel

Cohen has agreed to testify publicly before the panel on February 7, according to a statement from Cohen.

Cohen said he will "give a full and credible account of the events that have transpired".

Like it or not, Cohen will be airing the administration's dirty laundry under oath in front of a government committee in February, something which is likely to cost traders, economists, and of course, President Trump himself, a few nights' sleep at the very least.

Cohen, Trump's self-described longtime "fixer," pleaded guilty to the campaign finance charge in August and to making false statements in November.

Cohen's cooperation with Mueller prompted a falling out with his former client, with Trump attacking Cohen on Twitter, including accusing him of lying to try to lessen his jail sentence.

A hearing could delve into the financial deals of the Trump Organisation as well as the Trump 2016 election campaign's dealings with Russian Federation, already being probed by the team of Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

"Mr. Cohen knows where a good numerous bodies were buried during the Trump campaign", Riopelle said. The Maryland representative sent letters sent a pair of letters to both the White House and the Trump Organization earlier this week following an earlier request for documents pertaining to the president's alleged failure to report debts and payments to his personal attorney "to silence women alleging extramarital affairs with the president before the election".

Cohen has also been cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation, and in November pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about Russian Federation related matters.

Toffees keen on permanent deal for Chelsea flop Michy Batshuayi
He may have not done well during his time with Valencia but did display his quality during the stint with Dortmund. He continued: " I don't make changes to point at anyone, I make changes depending on the performance I see ".

On the subject of the payments, Trump insisted he only found out about them after they were made, despite the release of a 2016 recorded conversation in which Trump and Cohen can be heard discussing a deal to pay McDougal for her story of a 2006 affair. He said he's speaking with Mueller's office to prevent that. Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, who was made chairman of the committee after Democrats regained control of the House of Representatives, made the announcement Thursday.

President Donald Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, will testify publicly before Congress next month.

It's not yet clear whether Cohen will agree to speak to any other committees.

The lawyer has cooperated with Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the election since a year ago, which has prompted anger from the president.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, a California Democrat who had been seeking to bring Cohen before his committee, issued a statement on Thursday saying he hopes to schedule his own session with Cohen behind closed doors.

The president, "knows the truth", Cohen said. Richard Burr, R-N.C., said in a statement.

It was unclear if Cohen's agreement to testify before the Oversight Committee will preclude appearances, in public or private, before other House panels.
