In Cuba on a wet road overturned a bus, killing 7 people

The crash happened yesterday afternoon between Baracoa and Guantanamo on the eastern side of the island.

Seven people, including four foreign tourists, were killed and 33 others injured in a bus accident that occurred in eastern Cuba, local media reported on Friday.

The bus was carrying tourists and local travellers in the far east of Cuba, on a road between the cities of Baracoa and Guantanamo.

Eighteen Cubans and 22 tourists from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Mexico and Canada were on the bus when it crashed in wet conditions between the eastern cities of Baracoa and Guantanamo.

Some 33 people were injured, including citizens from the United Kingdom, the US, Canada, France, the Netherlands and Spain.

According to official statistics, there were 11,187 road accidents in 2017 that left 750 people dead and 7,999 injured from a population of 11.1 million.

Cuban highways are poorly lit, narrow and rutted with huge potholes. The Canadians are not listed among the critical but the extent of their injuries is not yet known. This most recent crash is the fourth bus crash there this month.
