Lexar just unveiled a 1TB SD card you can actually buy

I remember when I was kid first learning about technology I thought that a terabyte was such a huge, incalculable amount of space that surely no one person would ever need that much storage. Lexar, however, has beaten every other card manufacturer to the punch by revealing its own 1TB SDXC memory card at CES 2019, and it's already on sale.

We've been hearing about 1TB SD cards for a couple of years now, with SanDisk showing off a prototype card back in September 2016.

"As consumers continue to demand greater storage for their cameras, the combination of high-speed performance with a 1TB option now offers a solution for content creators who shoot large volumes of high-resolution images and 4K video", Joey Lopez, Lexar senior marketing manager, said in a statement.

Lexar's 633x line of SDHC and SDXC UHS-I cards run the gamut from 16GB all the way to its new flagship offering, the 1TB behemoth listed at $499.99.

For keen photographers, video makers and.erm. fledgeling porn makers, the Professional 633x should have enough speed and capacity to capture 4K video and a load of RAW photos, and then make transferring them to a computer or perhaps the new iPad Pro a speedy process. So, the Lexar's latest SD card is the first commercially available 1TB SD card you can actually buy.

But all that convenience comes at a cost, of course.
