Apple's AirPower charging mat has finally entered production

Apple's AirPower charging mat has finally entered production

Oddly enough, Apple over the past few years has fallen into the same bad habit of introducing products that ship embarrassingly behind schedule.

16 months later, it's nowhere to be seen and the word "AirPower" suddenly can only be found in one place on Apple's website: a list of trademarks that also includes long-dormant properties like Newton and One-to-one.

Apple has reportedly kick-started mass production of its long-delayed AirPower wireless charging pad.

But as it turns out, Apple could soon be launching the AirPower. Apple did say that the wireless charging pad would launch in 2018, but it didn't happen. The wireless accessory that can charge three Apple products in one go, was first announced alongside the Apple iPhone X in September 2017. That's based on a tip from unnamed sources working in the Apple supply chain.

"AirPower is finally coming", the tweet reads. They added that this is the same company that makes Apple's AirPods and USB-C cables.

A Twitter account by the name of ChargerLab claimed that Apple's production partner Luxshare Precision has started producing the new AirPower.

Bolstering the report, ChargerLAB published another tweet today with corroborating information from another source familiar with Apple's plans.

Apple AirPower: Another source claims Pegatron is set to start mass produce AirPower at Jan 21. "Pegatron is also an Apple OEM in Asia". This would suggest that previous reports of a release in the first quarter of 2019 were accurate.
