At the 477-yard par-4 13th, Lahiri's tee shot went 269 yards to the right rough, his second shot went 180 yards to the right front greenside bunker, and his sand shot went 29 yards to the green where he had a two-putt for a bogey. Swafford got off to a slow start but heated up with four birdies in a seven-hole stretch to entertain thoughts of potentially chasing down Kuchar and Putnam.

Kuchar is 2-2 when he has the 54-hole lead going into the final round.

The 40-year-old is also trying to win for the second time this season after capturing the Mayakoba Golf Classic in November. Andrew Putnam grabbed a share of the lead when Kuchar bogeyed Nos.

"Last year I probably ground harder than I've done in the past", he said.

Kuchar led by two overnight and had just one blemish on his scorecard over the first 54 holes, but his customary composure slipped early on the final day at Waialae Country Club as he endured a torrid run of three bogeys in four holes.

"Certainly a year ago was disappointing, but to win two out of three events is insane to comprehend", Kuchar said. Instead, it turned into the American's first top-10 finish since the 2017 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and his best result since winning the Desert Classic nearly exactly two years ago.

"Andrew was tough. He was battling me, took the lead.it was nice to have that pressure, to have come through and to make some birdies coming in".

"It's not often you feel like you know what you're doing with your swing and the ball's reacting the way you want it to and you're able to maneuver the ball the way you want", Kuchar told reporters. "Still played a good round".

Kuchar was at his best on a number of putts from the 50-foot range.

Putnam's birdie at the third and a series of solid pars proved enough to take him into the lead, which he maintained at the turn when he matched Kuchar's birdie at the long ninth.

"Honestly, I didn't think about it at all until after the third one went in", Reavie added.

Australian Leishman has picked up two shots through 11 holes of his third round and is tied for sixth place at 11 under. Yuki Inamori is one stroke further back after carding a 68, while Rikuya Hoshino just made the cut at 2-under, following up his opening round of 66 with a 2-over 72.
