McCarthy: Russia Investigation Has Been About Trump 'From the Beginning'

In an interview Saturday, President Trump disparaged two recent explosive reports about his dealings with the Kremlin, lashing out at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the news media and defending his interactions with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The New York Times reported that the FBI launched the previously undisclosed counterintelligence investigation to determine whether Trump posed a national security threat, at the same time that it opened a criminal probe into possible obstruction of justice by the president.

The question came after The New York Times reported that law enforcement officials began investigating, in 2017, whether Trump had been working on behalf of Russian Federation against us interests.

"I think it's the most insulting thing I've ever been asked", he said. "I think it's the most insulting article I've ever had written, and if you read the article you'll see that they found absolutely nothing".

According to Trump, "the FBI was in complete turmoil. because of Comey's poor leadership" and the way he handled the investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private server to send some government emails.

Passage of the resolution of disapproval of Treasury's decision would require the approval of both the Democratic-majority house and the Senate, led by Trump's fellow Republicans who are unlikely to break with his policy.

Schumer says it's important the sanctions remain in place while the special counsel's Russian Federation investigation proceeds.

Coons said, "That was a concerning, even alarming report".

As a result, USA officials told the Post, there exists "no detailed record, even in classified files", of Trump's meetings with the Russian leader at five locations over the past two years.

Trump also said he had "a great conversation" with Putin during their one-on-one, almost two-hour meeting in Helsinki in July 2018.

Engel told NPR that issuing a subpoena for an interpreter would be the last resort to find out details of Trump's discussions with Putin. But Trump waved off their queries, leaving the officials to rely exclusively on a brief readout that Rex Tillerson, the secretary of state at the time, had provided to the news media, according to the former official.

USA intelligence agencies have said Moscow tried to tip the election to Trump.

The U.S. intelligence community has concluded that Russian Federation engaged in a campaign of hacking and propaganda to sway voters during the vote, largely aimed at bolstering Trump's chances at the presidency. Pirro asked on Saturday.

On Sunday, congressional Democrats said the steps Trump took to keep his conversations secret brought forth uncomfortable questions about the relations between the two men and why the US president echoed some of Putin's positions. "I do it with all countries".

"I'm not keeping anything under wraps, I couldn't care less". "Anybody could have listened to that meeting, that meeting is up for grabs". He also accused the Post of fabricating the report.

Senior U.S. officials told the Post they never received a reliable readout of Mr. Trump's meeting with Putin in Helsinki.

Trump never answered Pirro's question directly, but went on to say that no president has taken a harder stance against Russian Federation than he has.

"It's curious that throughout that whole summer when these investigations started, you had Vladimir Putin policies nearly being parroted by Donald Trump", Warner told CNN's "State of the Union". "By any measure, President Obama was much easier, was much more gentle on Russia", Cruz said. "I will say this, I don't see any reason why it would be".
