Iron Dome Intercepts Syrian Missile Over Hermon Mountain

Syrian state news agency SANA quoted a military source as saying that Syrian air defenses "thwarted Israeli air strikes" during the daylight hours on Sunday.

Syrian state television earlier reported that a blast had been heard around the southern highway in Damascus.

According to Arab media reports, including in Syria, it was in all likelihood a response to an attack against Hezbollah positions.

A "terrorist" has been arrested after a huge explosion in Damascus, Syrian state media has said, in a rare attack in the capital that has been largely insulated from violence over the past year.

Earlier Sunday, a roadside bomb went off south of Damascus without causing casualties, state media reported.

Israel's army declined comment on the airstrike.

The Israeli military later said its Iron Dome interceptor system shot down a rocket fired at the northern part of the occupied Golan Heights on the Syria frontier. Iran and Hezbollah are allied with the Syrian government in the civil war.
