DeSantis didn't mince words when asked if agreed with the way Florida's Medical Marijuana Industry was operating Thursday afternoon.

In addition to asking state lawmakers to make smokeable cannabis available to patients, Governor Ron DeSantis also wants to shake up the entire distribution system.

In his announcement, the Governor said the state has been "foot-dragging" on implementing medical marijuana. "That is not good policy, so I'd like them to address that as well".

The almost 170,000 medical marijuana patients in Florida may soon have a new option for how they take their medicine: smoking it. However, directly afterward, then-Governor Rick Scott filed an appeal, preventing flower sales from moving forward until the appeal was resolved.

DeSantis claimed that the state of Florida will not be conducting business with any organization promoting discrimination led by the antisemitic Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS).

DeSantis accused the Republican-dominated Legislature of failing to implement the amendment "in accordance with what the amendment envisioned". This led to lengthy legal battles in the state, majority bankrolled by Morgan, who also funded the initial amendment's campaign, resulting in Circuit Court Judge Karen Gievers ruling that the state's ban was "unconstitutional". "So I don't think this law is up to snuff".

Mimi Jankovits executive director of Teach Florida, a movement of Jewish schools, parents and community advocating for safe, strong and affordable nonpublic schools, said, "Teach Florida championed Jewish school security funding from the start in 2017, and applauds Gov. DeSantis' support of at least $2 million in funding". Court decisions in other lawsuits also ruled those limitations were in conflict with the amendment.

"We thank Gov. DeSantis for his strong leadership in opposing the bigotry and antisemitism of the BDS Movement".

DeSantis also appeared to take a swipe at his predecessor, U.S. Sen. "I look at how some of this was created, where they (lawmakers) created a cartel, essentially", DeSantis said. "This is an issue I've seen firsthand throughout our state and country, and one that touches my family personally - my mother was recently diagnosed with cancer, and she is struggling to find medicine that relieves her suffering".

If they don't, he said he will drop the appeal himself.

Legislative leaders backed DeSantis' move and pledged to move quickly on legislation.

"The governor's willingness to engage with us is appreciated and the House will work with the governor on his priorities, including ensuring patients have options and our kids remain protected", House Speaker Jose Oliva, R-Miami Lakes.
