Facebook says Apple is restoring a key developer tool

Facebook says Apple is restoring a key developer tool

Apple was quick to reprimand Facebook with the same action on Wednesday.

Still, the shutoff didn't seem to debilitate Facebook's ability to work. These include early versions of Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and other beta apps, along with one used by Facebook employees for transportation.

Canahuati did, however, fail to mention that Facebook's research app was strikingly similar to its Onavo VPN app launched previous year which was found to be tracking users' data and was also pulled from Apple's app store.

Google appears confident it would quickly regain its access. But more than just the morality of these "research" projects, both companies have abused Apple's Enterprise Certificate program to get around Apple's usually stringent and meticulous app review process, even for its TestFlight beta program. Facebook is still permitted to distribute apps through Apple's app store, though such apps are reviewed by Apple ahead of time. Its developers work on code on Facebook's internal systems. "To be clear, this didn't have an impact on our consumer-facing services", a Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch. That's why Apple revoked the certificates and forced Facebook to pull the app.

Facebook says Apple is restoring its access to a key development tool that the iPhone maker disabled on January 30.

Apple did not immediately have a comment Thursday after reinstating Facebook's access to its internal apps.

Reports do say that Xiaomi is planning to release this affordable device in Europe, where it has recently opened many stores. The Redmi Go , just like every other Android Go-powered device in the market, goes for a rather reasonable $90.

Apple blocking Google's apps is likely to do with its Screenwise Meter app, which tracks how people use their smartphones. Apple would have to be okay with not only angering Facebook, but also disrupting its users' lives. Facebook is finding out the hard way.

"Less than 5% of the people who chose to participate in this market research program were teens".

"All of them signed parental consent forms", added Facebook.

Smaller developers have to play by Apple's strict rules, so it's encouraging to see the same ones applied to tech giants, he said.

Apple adheres clearly to its rules and applies them equally to Facebook, Google and, probably, to many other companies that violate Apple's rules in the future. The research app was being distributed outside of the Apple's App store using Apple's enterprise program that allows developers to use special certificates to install more powerful apps onto iPhones.

It's the latest string of privacy scandals to plague the social networking behemoth in recent months, including revelations in 2018 that a United Kingdom consulting firm improperly used data on millions of Facebook users for election ads during the 2016 presidential contest.
