Skype now blurs the background during video calls

"Background blur in Skype and Teams uses artificial intelligence (AI)-trained in human form detection-to keep you in focus during your call". When done, your background will be instantly and subtly blurred, leaving just you as the only focal point. Background blur is available on desktops and laptops running the latest version of Skype, but the feature is still somewhat experimental.

Mostly, services like FaceTime and Skype promise to provide a reasonably clear video chat with friends, relatives or business associates.

It's not clear whether Microsoft plans to add background blurring to the Skype platforms for the smartphone, such as Android or iOS.

The background blurring feature has already been rolled out to Microsoft's corporate communication client, Teams, and now it's in the consumer-oriented app.

In the menu that pops up, click on the "Blur my background" toggle to turn the feature on. This feature will no doubt help you blur out everything that is behind letting the other participant focus only on the call rather than the background. But that should not stop you from trying this new feature from Skype.
