The Nogales City Council passed a resolution Wednesday condemning the installation, describing the razor-sharp wire as "lethal" and "inhuman".

The resolution called the razor wire "not only irresponsible, but inhumane" and argues that this type of wall "is only found in a war, prison or battle setting".

Mayor Arturo Garino doesn't see the benefit of having this type of wiring.

"Now concertina wire is being placed on that wall from the very top all the way to ground level, which is not safe for the residents of Nogales, Arizona, and it's not safe for anyone getting close to it", Garino said.

The council is calling on the federal government to remove all concertina wire installed within the city limits.

Europe's ExoMars Rover Officially Named After DNA Pioneer Rosalind Franklin

"Border Patrol agents working at the Camp Bounds (Forward Operating Base) early (Friday) morning observed a large group illegally crossing the border and making their way into the United States", according to a news release from Border Patrol.

Officers of the Mexican equivalent of U.S. Customs and Border Protection reportedly surrounded the truck and discovered the driver dead.

So far this year, Customs and Border Protection says agents have apprehended three groups totaling more than 650 people in that part of the desert, between Yuma and Nogales.

The vote comes after US military troops installed additional layers of wire along the fence over the weekend, and the day after President Donald Trump highlighted border security in his State of the Union address.

Nogales, a city of about 20,000 people, is largely reliant on Mexican shoppers and cross-border trade.
