Eurovision 2019: Michael Rice says he can ‘definitely’ win in Tel Aviv

Of the 10 acts, Miller Heidke won the most votes from the jury and the public.

The blonde beat out electronic duo Electric Field, who placed as runner-up during the live decider.

They were picked over acts Anisa, girl group Maid, and 17-year-old singer and former X Factor hopeful Holly Tandy after each of the three specially written songs were sung in two different styles.

Paul Clarke, the creative director of Eurovision - Australia Decides, describedMiller-Heidke's victory as "a win for out-of-the-box brilliance, which Eurovision devours".

Miller-Heidke, wearing a silver dress and a shiny headpiece, performed her operatic pop song "Zero Gravity", which is about overcoming postnatal depression.

"It's a standout song with mesmerising staging".

Fans said they feel the song could be a victor at Eurovision in May.

In 2016, Australia's Dami Im placed second in Eurovision, wowing the world with her song, Sound Of Silence. Around a dozen protesters representing the pro-Palestinian Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement demonstrated outside the venue, calling for artists, fans, and SBS itself to wind back its support of Israel's hosting duties.

The Eurovision finals and grand final are scheduled to be held at the Tel Aviv Convention Centre on 14, 16 and 18 May.
