Most Democrats from Virginia delegation call on Fairfax to resign

The two women accusing Virginia Lt. Gov Justin Fairfax of sexual assault said they would be willing to testify at possible impeachment proceedings against the Democrat.

State Attorney General Mark Herring has also admitted a blackface episode in 1980 while he was aged 19 in college.

Attorneys for Vanessa Tyson and Meredith Watson released statements Saturday saying the women would testify against Fairfax, who has faced calls from members of his own party to resign. "It is demonstrably false".

Mr Fairfax's first accuser, Vanessa Tyson, came forward last week to allege he forced her to perform oral sex on him in his hotel room at the Democratic party convention in Boston in 2004.

In his own statement later Friday night calling for Fairfax's resignation, Sen.

"Justin Fairfax doesn't seem to have many, if any, Democrats who are out there defending him which leads me to ask 'what did you know?'" she said. That possibility has tested Democrats' resolve to show zero tolerance for sexual misconduct and racial bigotry.

Republican Kirk Cox, speaker of the Virginia House, would become governor if all three resign.

The accusations against Fairfax have rocked an administration that was already struggling amid calls for the resignation of Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam over a racist photo that appeared on his 1984 medical school yearbook page.

Northam, of course, did admit to darkening his face for a Michael Jackson costume.

Several months later on March 19, 2021, the rover will, with any luck, touch down on the Oxia Planum plain on the surface of Mars. Because she died in 1958, aged 37, she never received the recognition given to her male peers for deciphering the DNA.

Northam has been in seclusion all week, using tunnels to shuttle between the mansion and the nearby building where he has an office. Consequently, I call on all appropriate and impartial investigatory authorities, including the FBI, to investigate fully and thoroughly the allegations against me by Ms. Watson and Dr. Tyson.

He demanded a full investigation to "clear my good name". Northam told his top staff Friday that he would not resign.

Watson replied: "Justin raped me in college and I don't want to hear anything about him".

Still, some Democrats, like presidential hopeful Cory Booker, are calling for Fairfax to resign while others are asking for an investigation. Mr. Fairfax answered: "I knew that because of what happened to you previous year, you'd be too afraid to say anything".

The firm, New Jersey-based Smith Mullin, said the alleged assault occurred in 2000. The woman said in a statement Friday that the attack took place when she and Fairfax were students at Duke University.

He revealed that Ms. Watson was the victim of a prior rape. Watson reportedly told Fairfax about the incident.

After staying out of sight since he faced the press on February 2 to deny he was pictured in the racist photo on his yearbook page, but admitting that he had worn blackface on another occasion, Northam, 59, returned to the public eye to attend the funeral of a slain state trooper.

In an apparent effort at mending fences with Virginia's African-American population, Northam on Friday met privately with the president and founder of the National Black Farmers Association, John Boyd Jr., in Richmond, the state capital.

"And the main point that this person told me is that at the end of the day, the white person - just as I was the white person that dressed up as an African-American dancer - at the end of the day we can take that makeup off and go back to being white", but a black person continues to live in that skin and all that it represents.
