Dual-sport star Kyler Murray commits to pursuing NFL career

"I was raised to play QB and I very much look forward to dedicating 100% of myself to being the best QB possible and winning NFL Championships". "I eagerly await the opportunity to continue to prove to National Football League decision makers that I am the franchise QB in this draft".

Kyler Murray has tweeted that he is "fully committing my life and time to becoming an NFL quarterback", answering the question of whether he will choose football or baseball.

Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders played football and baseball, but both men played less demanding positions: Jackson was a running back and Sanders a cornerback.

Murray, 21, was drafted ninth overall by Major League Baseball side Oakland Athletics in June a year ago. Although the A's were hoping he'd choose baseball, they were increasingly pessimistic the longer his locker in their spring-training clubhouse sat empty.

Earlier on Monday, A's president Billy Beane said the situation around Murray was still uncertain.

Kyler Murray was seen as a future star by the A's.

In his lone season as the full-time starter at Oklahoma, Murray was electrifying. "He could be a really good National Football League quarterback".

Duke Blue Devils vs. Virginia Cavaliers, 2/9/19 Predictions & Odds
Both these teams were terrible from 3-point range the first time around. "But we did jam the lane, so we got that going for us". The No. 3 Cavaliers (20-2, 8-2 ACC) were the last team against which anyone would figure to shake a 3-point funk.

Murray was already slated to attend the NFL Scouting Combine at the end of February, where he'll be one of the most watched prospects.

Murray's accountants will be busy sorting things out now that he has announced his decision.

Murray reportedly will return most of the signing bonus he received from the A's previous year, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. He'll also forfeit the remaining $3.16MM that would have been paid to him on March 1.

Technically, the Athletics will be able to retain the rights to Murray, in the event that he ever has a change of heart or is forced to alter his career path. Mayfield, the No. 1 overall pick last April, can expect to earn just under $33 million over his rookie contract with the Cleveland Browns, including a signing bonus of more than $22 million.

Should Murray be drafted in the first round of the NFL draft as expected, he will be the first player drafted in the top round of the MLB and NFL drafts.

In October, first-year Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury suggested as Texas Tech's head coach that he would take Murray first overall in the upcoming draft.
