Cancel your plans as company promising trips to Mars goes bankrupt

Be that as it may, many of Mars One's claims have come under intense scrutiny in the years since its beginning. Mars One was quietly declared bankrupt last month, placing the burden of colonizing Mars on NASA, SpaceX or perhaps some other privately funded entity.

After defending the scam claim in early 2015, CEO Bas Lansdorp and the Mars One project essentially went quiet and now we know why.

Mars One, the company that promised to colonize Mars with human volunteers and make a reality TV show about it, has gone bankrupt, crushing the dreams of its willing participants and drawing "I told you so's" from its critics. The goal of the investor and Mars One is to achieve either a reversal of the administration or a restart based on a financial agreement with the liquidator.

The company says the bankruptcy court proceedings center on its Mars One Ventures. The investment company now in talks "has expressed its intention" to pay Mars One's creditors that money owed.

The organization originally planned to send six groups of four to Mars beginning in 2024 and planned to fund the US$6-billion project through corporate sponsorships and a television program. The Mars One astronauts were to be "sequestered in a remote location", the company had said, where they could practice living in (and repairing) a habitat like one designed for life on Mars. "For the execution of the actual voyage to Mars, the company will continue to seek strategic collaboration with renowned companies and organizations involved with the travel to Mars", it now says.

The spaceship with the colonists was to be launched to Mars in 2026. It'll focus on creating content about the technological, psychological, economical, and ethical aspects of colonization.

Mars One - which began in the Netherlands and now has ties to a Swiss financial services company - says it's been talking to investors and hopes to emerge from the bankruptcy process intact.
