Google's Next Pixel Devices Might Have Real Dual SIM Support

We're nearly certainly going to get Android Q arriving with the Pixel 4, ready to take advantage of that dual-SIM functionality.

The source of information by way a short post made on the official page of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Never mind the fact that eSIM support is very limited in the U.S. and the rest of the world, the Pixel's Dual SIM mode is one that goes back to the early 2000s. "In general, some devices will be single SIM, even if they contain two SIM cards, as the Pixel 2018 case and that is a valid configuration". According to a source, the next-gen Pixel device will be coming with an improved dual SIM functionality.

Like Apple's latest iPhones, Google's upcoming Pixel will allow users to more seamlessly receive texts and calls from two networks at once; a pretty nice boon for those whose primary cellular provider has spotty coverage in certain areas.

It's being said that the Pixel 4 will get Dual SIM, Dual Active (DSDA) functionality. Making it possible for future Pixel smartphones to use both a physical SIM and eSim simultaneously. This is how the Pixel 2 series and Pixel 3 series work, as both have a physical SIM slot and an eSIM slot.

The report further reveals that Google is defining support for "dual-SIM mode" with Android Q. The new system property value is meant to "differentiate devices that support enablement of dual-SIM mode from those that don't, even if they have two or more SIM cards".

Beyond that, there's no other word regarding other features. The same commit mentions that the Pixel 3 also supports dual-SIM use, but it's restricted to dogfooding.
