Mickelson Wins Weather-Delayed AT&T Pebble Beach Pro

Mickelson tied Mark O'Meara's record with his fifth victory in the AT&T Pebble Beach, the first one also a Monday finish in 1998 because of bad weather, with one big difference - that Monday finish was more than six months later in August.

CBS will provide live coverage of the event via its website, with coverage starting at 11 a.m. ET and continuing until play is finished.

This was his fifth win at Pebble Beach, a lovely golf course that he clearly knows very well and is also staging the US Open this year.

What excites him is that he's putting as well as he has at any time in his career and has found an extra "5-6 miles per hour swing speed" he believes that could be the key at the Masters, even if he conceded that winning 50 times on the PGA Tour might prove a challenge.

He also won the Pro-Am with Don Colleran, the chief sales officer for FedEx. "But I'll deal with that in [four] months".

"I was coming here this week with a little trepidation", said McDowell, who does not get to join McIlroy or Seamus Power in Los Angeles for this week's Genesis Open and will be playing in opposite field Puerto Rico Open next week rather than the $2.25 million WGC Mexico Championship.

Mickelson won on American soil for the first time since the Phoenix Open in 2013.

However, the 5-time Major victor hasn't been as animated on the golf course as usual, and he revealed that's down to his personal relationship with Casey.

While Gabriel's comments weren't picked up by microphones, Root's response was. "There's nothing wrong with being gay". West Indies interim coach Richard Pybus said he was unaware of the comment but it will be addressed if deemed unfit.

Mickelson and Casey were waiting to tee off when clouds moved in quickly moved in, and rain turned into hail that pounded umbrellas, many of them held sideways to account for the wind.

He was at his best at Pebble Beach, and no one had a chance.

He started the day three shots off Casey's lead but roared to the top of the leaderboard with six birdies that put him 18-under for the tournament with two holes remaining.

Pebble Beach was so soft that balls were plugging in the fairway when they landed.

After playing the 17th and 18th on Monday, Mickelson admitted Casey was right.

"That's probably a good omen", Mickelson said. "The rough will be so deep and the greens will be so fast, it will be a totally different course". Mickelson poured it on, showing his skills have not deteriorated a bit at age 48, controlling spin beautifully to back pin positions.

"It's dark and we're going to have a good chance tomorrow to come out on fresh greens".

He gained ground with birdies at the par-five second and the fourth, then made back-to-back birdies at the ninth and 10th - two of the toughest holes on the course.
