Offshore wind now provides just over 7% of Britain's power, but the government wants that increased to more than 30% by 2030.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy said the Offshore Wind Sector Deal included a £250m offshore wind growth partnership, meant to ensure companies working in relevant coastal regions "continue to be competitive and are leaders internationally in the next generation of offshore wind innovations".

"We see great opportunity for offshore wind development at scale and are looking forward to working with private sector developers to open up new investment opportunities in countries that could benefit from this increasingly competitive source of renewable energy", said Bertrand de la Borde, IFC Director and Global Head of Energy and Mining.

The new initiative "will drive a surge in the clean, green offshore wind revolution. bringing investment into coastal communities and ensuring we maintain our position as global leaders in this growing sector", Claire Perry, Britain's energy and clean growth minister, said in a statement.
