What the Green Bay Packers are getting in OL Billy Turner

After reeling in Ravens edge rusher Za'Darius Smith, general manager Brian Gutekunst is reportedly signing former Chicago Bears safety Adrian Amos.

Ian Rapoport, an inside for the NFL Network and NFL.com, reports the Green Bay Packers are making some deals to shore up the team's defense. Now add another bookend to defensive coordinator Mike Pettine's unit. Both players are 26 years old.

Preston Smith has played the past four seasons for Washington after the team drafted him in the second round in 2015 and hasn't missed a game.

The Green Bay Packers are upgrading their defense through free agency, agreeing to sign former Ravens edge rusher Za'Darius Smith and former Bears safety Adrian Amos, according to National Football League insider Ian Rapoport. There is room for improvement when it comes to capitalizing on those sacks (24.5 in 64 games) as Smith has only forced four fumbles - only one the past three seasons combined.

Amos is coming off a 2018 campaign in which he racked up 73 tackles, a sack, a couple of interceptions, a fumble recovery and nine passes defended. That almost matches his production from the previous three years combined - 10 sacks and 74 combined tackles from 2015-2017. After moving veteran cornerback Tramon Williams to free safety last season due to trading away Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Amos is a definite upgrade.

Amos will get a 4-year $37 million contract, with $21 million in the first two seasons. And that's what drops his grade just a little. What does he bring to Green Bay's line? The defense certainly deserves its share of the blame.
