Building collapses in Lagos, school kids trapped, many feared dead

Frantic rescue efforts were underway in Nigeria on Wednesday after a three-story school building collapsed while classes were in session, with scores of children thought to be inside.

As at the time of filing this report, many students are being rushed to the General hospital, Marina, while parents are trooping in to search for their children.

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), as well as security personnel including the police, army and National Security and Civil Defence Force (NSCDC) have continued with rescue operations at the scene.

The building was in the Ita-faji area of Lagos island, the original heart of the lagoon city before it expanded onto the mainland.
