The arrow went right through the phone, which hit the man in the chin.

The resident held up his mobile phone to take a photograph of the armed man, who then engaged the bow and was ready to fire.

A 43-year-old man stopped his vehicle at his driveway at a Nimbin property on Wednesday morning and noticed a man he knew, reportedly armed with the archery gear, NSW police said.

A man in Australia survived a bow and arrow attack after he attempted to photograph the assailant with a phone, which blocked the arrow.

Now here's where things get weirder.

Police said the incident began when the man drove to his home in Nimbin, in the northern part of the state of New South Wales.

This would sound like a tall tale, except the police posted photos on social media of the pierced phone showing the arrow tip extending out through the screen protector. "It left a small laceration that didn't require medical treatment", said the police in its statement, sharing two pictures of the damaged iPhone.

Police said the 39-year-old suspect was known to the victim. The phone appears to be a complete loss, but its sacrifice was surely appreciated.
