White House mum on whether Trump really thinks Democrats 'hate Jews'

Later in the day, Trump told Republican National Committee donors that Democrats "hate" Jewish people, according to person who heard the remarks, but spoke on condition of anonymity to describe the president's comments at a private event.

When first asked by NBC's Hallie Jackson if the president really thinks that "Democrats hate Jews", Sanders sidestepped the question.

Acosta opened with a question about whether Trump asked Gary Cohn to block AT&T's merger with Time Warner, before revisiting Trump's comments "about Democrats and Jewish people", asking whether that kind of rhetoric is "beneath" Americans.

"The Democrats hate Jewish people", Trump said, adding that he didn't know how any Jew could vote for a Democrat these days, Axios reported. "I think that is a great shame", Sanders said.

"I think that's a question you ought to ask the Democrats", Sanders responded, prompting confusion and mockery on Twitter. We're continuing the negotiations with China.

"You're saying something that's just patently untrue", Acosta answered. Acosta said, as Sanders tried to talk over him.

"The president's going to make sure whatever deal we get is in our best interest, that it's fair and reciprocal trade, that it protects our intellectual property, and that it actually has safeguards to make sure that the Chinese follow through with whatever commitments that they make", she said.

Sanders was referencing Omar's comments when, talking in a panel about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, she said she wanted to "talk about the political influence in this country that says it is okay to push for allegiance to a foreign country".

"Essentially suggesting that there were very fine people in the Nazis", Acosta said.

"The president has been incredibly clear in consistently and repeatedly condemning hatred, bigotry and racism in all of its forms, whether it's in America or anywhere else". During the now-infamous moment, Acosta refused to pass the microphone to a female White House aide.

Acosta's press pass was restored on November 19 after CNN argued that keeping him out of the White House violated the network and Acosta's First and Fifth Amendment rights.
