‘Sopranos’ Prequel Gets Fall 2020 Release and Working Title ‘Newark’

Both are producing the film as well with Alan Taylor as the director.

The highly anticipated prequel to "The Sopranos" has a new title and the film now has a release date scheduled in 2020...

In the show's final scene, Gandolfini's Tony Soprano visits Holsten's with his wife Carmela (Edie Falco) and his son Anthony Jr.

As Michael Gandolfini gets ready to step into his late father James Gandolfini's footsteps, the actor has visited a landmark from The Sopranos. (Robert Iler) after an investigation was launched into his ties with the mafia.

In terms of casting, a long list of respected names will be seen in the film, including Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Ray Liotta, Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, John Magaro and Michael Gandolfini, the latter who's playing a younger version of the role his late father once made legendary; New Jersey kingpin Tony Soprano. It ran for six seasons before ending in 2007.

Simply titled "Newark", the film will hit theaters on september 25, 2020, more than 13 years after the acclaimed HBO series came to an end.

As for the plot, the film is set in the 1960s during the Newark riots, five days of violence that saw members of the African-American and Italian communities clashing with local police.

David Chase, the creator of the acclaimed HBO series, has teamed up with Lawrence Konner, one of the series' writers, for the script.

Now, according to Variety, more has been revealed about the movie - which will explore the earlier years of mafia boss Tony Soprano, including its title and its scheduled release date.
