Trump 'greatly appreciates' Pelosi's opposition to impeachment

President Donald Trump and Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (puh-LOH'-see) agree: He shouldn't be impeached.

Our Verdict: Steyer won't let politics stand in the way of impeachment.

Cicilline said, "We should never proceed with impeachment for political reasons and we should never avoid moving forward with impeachment for political reasons".

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) said, "I don't know".

But there is no suggestion, in any of the ongoing discussions by Democrats, for and against impeachment, of citing Trump's defiance of the congressional power to appropriate funds, laid down in Article I of the Constitution, as one of the possible articles of impeachment.

Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries of NY made this point bluntly: "We did not run on impeachment". But she made clear how poorly she thought of him. "I didn't believe in it then; I don't believe in it now", Pelosi said.

There are several freshman lawmakers who want to push for impeachment, despite Pelosi's statements, and Khanna said he considers Congress to be like being on a jury.

But the speaker and other Democratic leaders in the House have said the decision would be based on such evidence - not about domestic factors like the economy.

On Tuesday, Ocasio-Cortez said: "Legally I don't think it's something that can ever be 100 percent off the table, but if that's how she feels right now I respect that".
