Ethiopian Airlines: Boeing 737 Max crash relatives offered earth for ceremony

In Paris, France's BEA air accident investigation agency said data from the jet's cockpit voice recorder has been successfully downloaded. All insisted upon anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press.

Dagmawit said temporary death certificate had been given, and a final one would be issued in two weeks time.

"The soil came as it became impossible to identify bodies and hand over remains to family members", one family member reportedly said, adding: "We will not rest until we are given the real body or body parts of our loved ones". The victims of the crash came from 35 countries. Muslim families have already held prayers for the dead and are anxious to have something to bury as soon as possible.

In the simulator, Aimer took off from the same airport in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, bound for Nairobi, Kenya, "flying" something like the Boeing 737 Max 8, a model that has since been grounded in the USA after the crash in Ethiopia earlier this month and another like it months before.

The safety issue means major disruptions to operations at both Air Canada and WestJet Airlines Ltd., which were forced to ground 24 and 13 Boeing 737 Max 8s, respectively. The erratic flight path appeared similar to a fatal Lion Air crash in October.

As of 12:50 p.m. ET Friday, Air Canada's stock was down 1.2 per cent this week from Monday, the day after the Ethiopian Airline crash involving the Max 8 which killed 157, including 18 Canadians.

Both planes flew with erratic altitude changes that could indicate the pilots struggled to control the aircraft.

Air Canada says it is suspending its financial guidance for 2019 after the grounding of the Boeing 737 Max aircraft involved in two deadly crashes in five months. Engineers are making changes to the system created to prevent an aerodynamic stall if sensors detect that the jet's nose is pointed too high and its speed is too slow.

In Addis Ababa, a source who has listened to the air traffic control recording of the plane's communications said flight 302 had an unusually high speed after take-off before the plane reported problems and asked permission to climb quickly.

However, Aimer said, after a certain point the Ethiopian Airlines plane's fate was sealed.
