New Zealand PM Vows to Change Gun Legislation After Christchurch Mosque Massacre

An aircraft engineer, a takeaway store owner, a student pilot; details emerging of some of the 50 people gunned down at two New Zealand mosques paint a picture of dozens of ordinary lives suddenly and savagely ended.

Rashid, hailing from Abbottabad, received bullet wounds as he tried to overpower the shooter as he entered one of the mosques in Christchurch. He says 36 victims remain hospitalized, with two of them in critical condition.

About 200,000 Indian and Indian-origin people live in New Zealand.

Others from the Middle East and Asia were also killed in the attack, according to foreign government reports.

"As a Member of our Pacific community, we stand with you shoulder to shoulder, heart to heart in this hard time coming to grips with what has happened".

She asserted that New Zealand "will not and can not be shaken" by this attack.

Condemning the terror strike, Ardern had described it as a "terror attack" and said it "appears to have been well planned".

Arden said victims would be handed over to families from Sunday evening.

On Saturday, the White House said U.S. Vice President Mike Pence spoke with New Zealand's Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters on Friday to express condolences for "the despicable terror attacks".

"The police has been telling us for several years that their big, rising concern - which they struggled to put resources at because it's not an immediate threat - is the rise of right-wing extremism", Barton said.
