Netflix Rejects New Apple TV App

Netflix Rejects New Apple TV App

This was confirmed by the company CEO Reed Hastings, Reuters reports.

Apple is expected to announce its own video streaming platform at its California headquarters on March 25, which is thought to come with original content as well as programming from existing broadcasters and entertainment producers.

That's separate from the original content Apple has been commissioning.

As per Bloomberg, Netflix Chief Executive Officer, Reed Hastings, asserts consumers should "watch our content on our service", affirming its "chosen not to integrate onto their service".

Apple reportedly wants a 30 percent cut of revenues - untypical for distributors in the TV and film industry. Users can subscribe to any streaming platform they like from within the app.

Apple Music has been a successful addition to the company since its launch in 2015, having gained more than 50 million subscribers and closing in on market leader Spotify, which had reached 87 million paying subscribers at the end of previous year.

Netflix has previously shunned integration with Apple's television application on iPhones, iPads and Apple TV boxes, which aggregates video content from several providers. "But you do your best job when you have great competitors".

Netflix's move is hardly surprising given its already-strained relationship with Apple; the firm refused to be part of Apple's TV app when it first launched in 2016, and in 2018, Apple stopped selling Netflix subscriptions through its App Store. The company declined to comment on Hastings's comments.
