Ex-Packers LB Clay Matthews Signs With The Los Angeles Rams

For the better part of ten years, Clay Matthews had been a staple of the Green Bay Packers defense, but that will no longer be the case after the linebacker agreed to a deal to sign with the Los Angeles Rams.

Matthews, who just had his third child, grew up in Southern California and went to USC.

The 32-year-old also confirmed the move on Twitter.

The Swede also said that the club needs to find its identity once again almost six years on from the retirement of Alex Ferguson . If it was me, I would say: "I don't have Ferguson any more".

Matthews played at Agoura High School (Calif.), which is located close to the Rams' practice facility in Thousand Oaks, Calif. He is a six-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time All-Pro. Nose tackle Ndamukong Suh is still a free agent after his sole season with Los Angeles.

Clay Matthews is leaving Green Bay for a good chunk of money and the opportunity to play for the Rams in Los Angeles, near his hometown and where he now lives in the offseason. He famously walked onto Pete Carroll's roster and redshirted on the Trojans' last national championship squad before growing into a first-round NFL pick. He won Super Bowl XLV with the Packers in 2011.

The Rams released starting linebacker Mark Barron earlier this month, creating additional opportunities for Matthews.
