A follow up tweet made by Osnos today reports that the problem was solved by putting the iPad into Device Firmware Update mode and his device is now restoring.

Thankfully, there is a solution, even if you are locked out of your iPad for half a century (although you're out of luck if you haven't backed up your device).

That's 48 years. Maybe Dad can play with his iPad in his retirement home then? Apparently, Osnos's 3-year-old son was trying to use his father's iPad, but inputted the wrong password too many times, causing the iPad to be disabled for 25,536,442 minutes, or a little over 48 years.
