Attorney General William Barr Testifies on Trump’s DOJ Budget Request

Attorney General William Barr suggested on Tuesday he'd negotiate with leaders in Congress who want to see the secret evidence that underpins special counsel Robert Mueller's report.

Barr will testify today before the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The scramble to frame the investigation's findings in the best political light is sure to be renewed in coming days when Mueller's report is expected to be released in redacted form. "I am relying on my own discretion to make as much public as I can".

He said he would redact sections of the report that contained grand jury testimony, details to protect intelligence sources and methods, and information pertaining to ongoing or future investigations.

Barr said in a Congressional hearing Tuesday that he is "reviewing the conduct of the investigation and trying to get my arms around all the aspects of the counterintelligence investigation that was conducted during the summer of 2016".

"As I've stated before, in order to ensure that our immigration system works properly, we must secure our nation's borders, and we must ensure that our laws allow us to process, hold, and remove those who violate our immigration laws", Barr says. More likely, the report will include a series of troubling facts, many of which we already know, but none of which are enough to could convince Republicans to turn on Trump.

"I'm glad to talk to Chairman Nadler and Chairman Graham as to whether they feel they need more information and if there's a way we can accommodate that", Barr said. While Barr's letter said the special counsel did not find a criminal conspiracy between Russian Federation and Trump associates during the 2016 election, it also said Mueller had presented evidence on both sides of the obstruction question and ultimately did not reach a conclusion on it.

On his program Tuesday, Limbaugh said Democrats are being "driven mad", and they can not accept that there is no Trump-Russia collusion nor a conspiracy at the Justice Department to cover it up. She said, "He is not the attorney general of Donald Trump". Specifically, Barr is looking into the standard for opening counterintelligence investigations. If Collins asks Mueller that, and Mueller endorses Barr's handling of the probe, it's hard to see how the cover-up theory could survive it.

Barr wrote to Congress last month that Mueller's investigation did not establish a conspiracy between President Trump's campaign and the Russian interference in the 2016 election. "So I think it's important in our oversight role to release the full report to Congress". "I suspect that they probably wanted more put out", he said.

The president and his allies will then try to "repeat the extraordinary success they achieved when Barr's letter was released, when newspaper headlines and TV news stories trumpeted that Mueller had essentially found Trump innocent", before members of the special counsel's team released a rare public statement refuting the AG's summary. Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein concluded the evidence Mueller presented did not amount to an obstruction charge.

Mueller's team, which was barely quoted in Barr's letter, has made clear that it did not exonerate the president.
